University Student Translation Program

Developing the translation, professional, and leadership skills of Middle-Eastern youth committed to our House of Wisdom 2.0 values.

Wikipedia Arabic Education Program

Funded in partnership with the Wikimedia Foundation, the program gives rise to a new generation of Wikipedia volunteers passionately committed to growing Wikipedia Arabic into a powerful knowledge engine for everyone in the Middle East and North Africa.

We offer students a full semester of extracurricular webinars that provide in-depth experience in translating and editing articles, thinking critically about good sources, and learning to lead volunteer communities committed to sharing knowledge. The best students have won prizes and the opportunity to advance to leadership positions in the Wikipedia Arabic community. The project has succeeded by the numbers, with outstanding attendance and retention results.

“I realized that knowledge is, without doubt, the most influential weapon against evil. By translating knowledge into Arabic, I want to prove that we can make the world a better place.”

Wikipedia Club at American University of Kurdistan (AUK)

On May 2, 2024, the American University of Kurdistan (AUK) and Ideas Beyond Borders launched the Wikipedia Club at AUK, a joint effort to promote knowledge accessibility and empowerment in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Building on a 2022 Memorandum of Understanding, this initiative trains AUK students in translation and editing, enabling them to contribute to Kurdish society by creating and translating content. This program enhances students’ skills and boosts their local and global employability while making information accessible to underrepresented communities.
